Erebus Motorsport, with star driver Brodie Kostecki and journeyman Todd Hazelwood, are the 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000 champions.
It was redemption for Kostecki and Erebus in what has become one of the most remarkable stories seen in Supercars in recent years.
Despite a dominant 2023 season, where Kostecki and Erebus claimed their maiden Supercars Championship title in the first year of Gen3 Supercars, they had unfinished business at Bathurst. Their lightning-fast Camaro and pole position couldn’t be converted into a win at the iconic endurance race, leaving them runners-up after falling just short of the top step of the podium.
When Kostecki wasn’t on the grid for the start of the 2024 season, missing early rounds of the championship, another assault on the mountain with Erebus seemed unlikely.
But nearly eight months later, Kostecki and Erebus reminded the Supercars paddock and fans alike that they are serious racers.
The team at Erebus Motorsport prepared the #1 Chiko-backed Chevrolet Camaro to perfection and guided by engineer George Commins, both Kostecki and Hazelwood were outstanding throughout the weekend.
Kostecki delivered a brilliant lap in the Top Ten Shootout to claim pole position to become only the sixth driver in Bathurst 1000 history to claim back-to-back poles.
From there, the duo never looked back. They dominated the race, leading for 157 laps, with Hazelwood playing a crucial role in their commanding performance.
In the final stints, Kostecki fended off a hard-charging Broc Feeney in the #88 Red Bull Camaro. With an extraordinary display of mental resilience and racecraft, both drivers laid down qualifying-like laps repeatedly after the race’s only Safety Car bunched up the field on lap 132. Despite Feeney’s pressure, Kostecki never looked like making an error and powered through to secure his maiden Bathurst 1000 victory. The win also marked Hazelwood’s first Supercars race win, in what was the fastest-ever Bathurst 1000, with a race time of five hours, 58 minutes, and 3.0649 seconds over 161 laps.
The storybook 2024 result proved that their dominance in 2023 was no fluke and firmly establishes Kostecki as one of the biggest stars of the sport. It also added another chapter to Erebus’ Bathurst legacy, which includes a 2017 victory, podiums in 2021 and 2023, and pole positions in 2018 and 2023.
Authentic Collectables are incredibly proud to be offering the 2024 Bathurst 1000 winner to model collectors and motorsport fans.
