The Dassault Mirage III is a family of single/dual-seat, single-engine, fighter aircraft developed and manufactured by French aircraft company Dassault Aviation. It was the first Western European combat aircraft to exceed Mach 2 in horizontal flight, a feat which was achieved on 24th October 1958.
“Shahak 59” of 101 Squadron, was the highest scoring Shahak in Israeli service (with a total of 13 kills). It was the first Shahak to score a kill when Yoran Agmon shot down a Syrian MiG-21 in July 1966. Several pilots have scored kills while flying Shahak 59; among them Oded Marom, Israel Baharav and IAF’s top ace – Giora Epstein.
