Its actions and its legacy for the city of Saint Malo make the Renard a symbol of the strong French naval identity .
The Renard was the last ship armed by the famous Robert Surcouf . In September 1813, she accomplished her greatest feat by defeating the English schooner HMS Alphea in combat , making the city of Saint Malo a refuge for the families of the world's greatest privateers. In 1991, a replica of the original Renard was launched, which still proudly sails the waters to the delight of its visitors.
