The P.11 is an all-metal gull-wing monoplane fighter developed by PZL in Poland and first flown in 1931. The P.11c is the final development for the Polish Air Force, equipped with a 600-horsepower Mercy V S2, or 630-horsepower Mercury VI S2 engine, and by 1936 175 of this aircraft had been built. In Romania, IAR started licensed production in 1936, and 70 of this aircraft were designated as P.11f. Deployment by the Polish Air Force started in 1935, and during the German invasion of Poland, it fought against the German Air Force as an air defense fighter; it was the first Allied aircraft to shoot down a German aircraft.
