M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) is a wheeled, self-propelled multiple rocket launcher developed by the United States Army for long-range precision strike capabilities. As a smaller version of the MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System), HIMARS is primarily deployed with the U.S. Army's rapid deployment units, including airborne and marine forces, as well as light infantry divisions capable of concentrated and swift deployment.
Unlike the previously deployed MLRS, which had tremendous destructive power and long-range support capabilities, it required large transport planes due to its vehicle weight of approximately 25 tons, posing constraints on rapid overseas troop deployment. To address this limitation, the HIMARS was developed as a long-range fire support weapon with armor applied to a military 6x6 truck cab capable of carrying 5 tons and transportable by the C-130 Hercules. It incorporates the FCS (Fire Control System) and MLRS launch system, providing a lightweight and compact alternative. This design enables the HIMARS to perform long-distance self-mobility, and its production and maintenance costs are more affordable compared to the MLRS.
The kit intricately reproduces the frame and engine, and the multiple rocket launcher system mounted on the rear of the vehicle can be modeled in either transport or firing position. Additionally, it allows for rotation to the left and right. The kit includes photo-etched parts and decals, and the wheels are made using 3D printing technology.
