The M109 is a modern American self-propelled gun. The first prototypes of the vehicle were created in the 1950s, and serial production began in 1962 and continues to this day. It is estimated that there are currently about 4,000 examples of this weapon in all armies of the world. The M109 is powered by a Detroit-Diesel Model 8V-71T engine with 405 hp. In the platform version (M109), the armament consists of a single M126 howitzer with a caliber of 155 mm and 1 M2 machine gun caliber of 12.7 mm.
