The 103 series is a DC commuter train that was introduced in 1963, and over 3,400 cars were manufactured.

From 1992 to 1998, the first improved cars and the mass-produced air-conditioned cars underwent life extension work (N40), which changed the side windows and significantly changed the appearance.
