The H5 series is the first Shinkansen train owned by JR Hokkaido, and began running on the Hokkaido Shinkansen line which opened in the spring of 2016.
Features
- In accordance with the additional baggage storage areas added to cars 1 to 9, some of the windows in cars 1 to 8 have been blocked off
- The anti-slip surface on the roof has been reproduced with gray printing
- Equipped with movable hood
- Equipped with movable pantograph
- Uses hook and U-shaped conductive couplers
- The driver's side of H514, which connects to the E6 series and other models, is equipped with a TN coupler
- The symbol mark, Gran Class mark, and car number are printed

- The headlights are lit by white LEDs, and the tail lights by red LEDs
- The H514 has an ON-OFF switch for the head and tail lights
