Most RC models are scaled around 1/10 of the cars' size, although, some are as small as 1/18 of the original.

Model Kit WWII and post-WWII model aircraft are 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 of Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing and other vintage jets. Battleships are scaled either 1/350 (which is rather large for a ship) or as small as 1/700 of their original size. Armour kits are mostly scaled 1/35 along with the figures that can be used to build up a diorama or scene. There is a small range of Armour kits scaled 1/48 the original size. Most of the car model kits are 1/24 and the motorbikes are scaled 1/12 there are some Japanese motorcycle bikes and engines that are 1/6 of the originals.

For plastic model kits we stock Acrylic, Acrylic Lacquer, Enamel and spray paint. Along with the corresponding thinners, mediums and top coats so that you can recreate an accurate replica or the desired effect for those who build dioramas. For finishing touches and weathering effects we stock Tamiya Paneline and washes. Of course to help with the application we stock Tamiya paint brushes and other accessories including masking tape, pipettes and painting clips.

For RC models we stock Tamiya's polycarbonte spray which is designed specifically to bite into the clear RC Car bodies and remain flexible so that it can withstand the pressure of Racing around the track.

Tamiya produce excellent instructions with their model kits that makes it very easy to choose your paint. It is a good rule of thumb to read through the instructions before choosing your paint. Tamiya lists all the paint numbers you require at the beginning of the manual and through out the instructions they diagram where the paint is to be applied and if it is to be mixed before application. Once you have decided what details you want to paint on your model you can use the list and the diagram to get a complete list of which paints you need which might be the complete list depending how detailed you want your model to be. Both enamel and acrylic paints use the same number system so you can choose to use either acrylic or enamel easily. But remember you cannot mix acrylic and enamel paint they are different emulsions and the paint will split. If you use both enamel and acrylic on the same model, make sure not to paint enamel over the top of acrylic as enamel paint can eat into the acrylic paint.

At Metro Hobbies we understand that if you are painting your first model that choosing paint can be daunting, we invite you to come and visit us and speak with an expert that can help you or contact our support team over the phone or by email.
