The German Rheinsteel 12.8K44L/55 anti-tank gun during World War II was designed because the Soviet army encountered a 122MM combat anti-tank gun on the Eastern Front battlefield in 1943 and needed corresponding artillery suppression weapons. The first gun was produced and tested in late 1944. After that, Rheinsteel and Krupp developed it simultaneously. However, the total weight of the gun during testing was nearly 11 tons, so the last two designs were scrapped by the military.
