After the successful launch of the first "Bear" -H aircraft in September 1979, the series of aircraft was started after 1981, and as the bear's production line reopened, the Soviet Union began to produce an upgraded Of the new "Bear" turboprop bombers to enrich their long-range bomber power. The new "Bear" bomber variant - the "Bear" -H, serves as the launching platform for the Kh-55 (AS-15) air-launched long-range cruise missile. The original model carried the air-to-ground cruise missile Kh-55 on the pylon in the bomb bay. This is the first "Bear" bomber to have been manufactured since the 1960s, replacing the "bear" bomber that barely served since the 1970s. By 1988, a large number of "bears" - the H-bombers - could be seen in training to simulate attacks on the northern part of the United States
